Astrobiology Links

Astrobiology and Bioastronomy are terms often used interchangeably to describe the search for evidence of life beyond Earth. This field encompass research into the chemical origins of life, and the existence of extraterrestrial microbial lifeforms, as distinct from SETI, which seeks evidence of intelligent, technological civilizations. The International Astronomical Union has sponsored periodic Bioastronomy Conferences, in which SETI scientists participate, since the 1970s. In the 1990s, NASA established its Astrobiology Institute, to encourage collaboration between its various research centers around the country.
